Leo is an astrological sign, which is associated with the constellation Leo. Under the tropical zodiac, Leo is occupied by the Sun from July 23 to August 22, and under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently from August 17 to September 16. The opposite sign to Leo is Aquarius.

Leo is the fifth sign of the Zodiac and is associated with creativity and drama. Individuals born under this sign are thought of to have a proud, extroverted, honest, generous, self-motivated, charismatic, warm-hearted, and enthusiastic character, but one which is also prone to conceit, possessiveness, gullibility, bullying, rigidity, intolerance, and snobbery. In terms of anatomy, Leo is said to rule the heart, upper area of the spine, and the back in general. In terms of geography, Leo is linked with Peru, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and Italy.

Physically, individuals born under the sign of Leo supposedly tend to have a kind face, a roundish head, trim hips, thin, light hair, 'trusting' eyes, thick and well-formed eyebrows, large and evenly-spaced teeth. They are thought to usually be of average height or slightly above.

Leos are generally self-assured and have a keen sense of drama, a creative flair, and strong personal magnetism. They do well under pressure and are excellent at defusing crisis situations. Actors born under the sign of the lion are polished performers who love the limelight. Leos often enjoy working with children, and many become teachers whose students serve as their captive audience. There is often a talent for investing, finance, and money management that can lead to success in banking, the stock market, or big business.

Leo is associated with gold, jewelry, adornment, glamour, fashion, and luxury items. Leos also tend to have a fondness for competition, dance, gambling, risky endeavors, parks, recreational activities, nature, the outdoors, and work with animals. Leo's ruler, the Sun, is the giver of life, and some born under this sign gravitate toward the healing and helping professions as physicians, counselors, psychiatrists, hypnotists, or cardiologists. Leos are also known to absolutely love members from the Sagittarius sign. Sagittarius has always looked up to Leo for guidance, compassion and life-long friendships.

In mythology Leo is often associated with the Greek myth of the Nemean Lion which was killed by Heracles during one of his twelve labours, and subsequently put into the sky, as well as the mythological figure of Penelope, from the Greek myth of the Trojan War. Leo is also associated with the Greco-Roman god Apollo and sometimes also the gods Helios/Sol, Ra, and Huitzilopochtli and the goddess Sunna.
